"My earliest memory of her is from at MTV event in NYC where we were both outside surrounded by hundreds of people. She wasn't that famous yet, and she made her way through a sea of people to say 'Johnny, will you hang out with me? You're the only person I know here.' My favorite-ever time I spent with her was backstage at one of their big arena shows. She asked me to come into their dressing room, and she and drummer Adrian Young put fingernail polish on me. She asked me if I worked out because my arms were rather large at the time. I worked out constantly, but I said 'No, this is just natural.' For the rest of the evening she would grab my arm and tease Adrian, saying 'He doesn't work out at all and you work out all the time and his arms are way bigger than yours.' Of course that would be my favorite memory."
From 1992-2000 and from 2002-2007 Johnny Riggs worked as a DJ at Baltimore/Washington's leading alternative rock radio station, WHFS (and on XM Radio from 2000-2002). He was also in the band Cinnamon Toast.
Being in a band and also a popular DJ at a beloved area radio station gave him access to a wide range of "alternative" (#whateverthatmeans) artists. Equipped with a Polaroid Captiva, he used that access to take these. He has been shooting Polaroids since he was 7 years old.
