Details
Spoofing the likes of Hammett and Chandler, PULP is about a LA private detective named Nick Belane who is visited by Lady Death who's looking for the French writer, Celine who, of course, should have died quite some time ago but didn't. This investigation leads to space aliens in human form, an unhappily married couple, and, in true Bukowski form, numerous barroom brawls.
It's interesting to see Bukowski, so late in life, make such a departure that helps form a the literary genre of Magical Noir.
