Details

Was Louis Riel one of the founding fathers, or a murderer? He was so charismatic he was elected to government twice while in exile with a price on his head - but his erratic behavior cast doubts on his sanity. REVIEW I really never thought I'd care about a marginally important Canadian revolutionary, but Brown's biography of the guy who was elected to office while in exile, twice is so damn compelling! Is Riel insane, or a true hero? Brown dances masterfully along the thin line that separates the two and creates a true comics masterpiece that transcends its subject. (Brown's doing something with the way he draws hands in this book, but I'm not getting it. If anyone knows what's going on, please let me know.) -Benn Ray, THE MOBTOWN SHANK
