Despite being thoroughly rooted in late-60s Britain, SELL OUT still sounds wonderful today. In this fascinating book, John Dougan explores the stories and the culture behind the making of the album - looking in particular at radio in Britain during the 1960s, and at the impact that 'Swinging London' and its swirl of ideas had on the Who as a band.

John Dougan is assistant professor in the College of Mass Communication at Middle Tennessee State University and an adjunct assistant professor of Music History and Literature in the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. A former musician and still freelance critic, he has been writing about music since Quicksilver Messenger Service released Happy Trails and has contributed to numerous publications including Rolling Stone, Spin, CD Review, Utne Reader, Popmatters, and All Music Guide.
