Many readers have given Tomine grief over the endings of his stories, which just seem to stop instead of tying up all the loose ends into a neat little package for the reader. However, Tomine's refusal to spell everything out gives OPTIC NERVE a literary feel that is akin to Raymond Carver and even Ernest Hemingway and Richard Ford.
