Maybe it's because of our closeness in age, but the power behind this autobiography of a young girl growing up in Iran during a cultural revolution that leads to oppression really hit the mark. I mean, when I was in middle school, I thought my life was miserable, but at least I wasn't living under Islamic fundamentalist oppression. You technically can't call this a comic since Satrapi's artwork is more iconic than narrative, but it works in ways more powerful than traditional, sequential comic art could. (Posted on 3/8/12)
