from Xerography Debt #28 Review by D. Blake Werts
When I was introduced to the idea of Ramsey’s LIST zine, it was unclear how “lists” could be a compelling read. If it weren’t for my wife’s propensity towards list making, I might not have taken the chance on LIST. I wanted to show that she wasn’t alone. Don’t repeat my mistake. After reading #11, I immediately sought out all issues still in print.

In issue LIST #14 we meet Ramsey in the midst of the “crisis” we all go through as we start thinking about the next major stage in our life’s path. For some it happens later in life, but it shouldn’t be any surprise to see this happening to someone so organized and goal-oriented. She’s letting go of a long-time relationship, wondering if Chicago is home, and the perpetual concern over making and keeping good friends. You see this conversation worked out through specific lists: “getting older every day, my dream home, what chicago has looked like for me so far, things I might want to do here still, big plans, making friends is hard, the best things i’ve done in chicago, ways i’ve changed in the last year, advice for planning a zine fest, why I probably won’t stay in chicago for more than another year, logan square, what I’m looking for in a place to live, and many others.”

Ramsey perfected the “narrative list.” Reading along you can completely forget you’ve consumed a list—the message is absorbed in the best of perzine style. Ramsey is an accomplished illustrator—LIST is loaded with great illustrations to accompany the events documented.
