I finally checked out Noah Van Sciver's The Hypo and even just on a technical level, it’s such an accomplishment. I would do well to be half as well at successful defining form, creating backgrounds, adding texture, and balancing darks.

Noah is my friend, so I would’ve liked this book no matter what, but it is truly great. I love how he draws, and I think he may be the best writer in the world. He’s just a great storyteller, and The Hypo is a perfect example of how well he can pace his comics. I’ve never read a comic like it before, it reads like a play! So good! (Posted on 2/13/13)
Noah has seemingly had a fantastic drawing style from the beginning (or at least from the early mini-comics I picked up years ago), but I love watching his writing develop. The Hypo is his longest divergence from self-deprecating auto-bio yet, and quite possibly his best work yet. He also gets bonus points for scribbling in huge swaths of black with a Micron pen rather than just using a flat wash of ink! (Posted on 2/13/13)
