Seemed slight at first, but upon numerous re-reads, reveals itself to be one helluva character study chock-full-o laugh-out-loud punchlines. This is a Clowes keeper. Looking forward to the film adaptation by Alexander Payne. (Posted on 2/5/12)
What may not be Dan Clowes best work (but still really damn good) is still better than most other artist/writers' best work - he's just that damn good. His Wilson is a modern take on Peanuts - sort of a vision of what Charlie Brown would be like if he was allowed to grow up.
Meanwhile, artistically, I couldn't help but feel his style variations were a good-natured jab at younger cartoonists - Clowes' way of saying, "I like your style, and in fact, I can do it better than you." (Posted on 2/4/12)
