There’s often a question of intentionality brought up when people talk about zines. What is the intention of the publication? Can a title with ISSN, an utne format primarily featuring poetry and fiction, and a (joking?) ad for their Random House book. But after nearly twenty years of hanging out with zines, I feel that the question is irrelevant. Is it good? Is it what you want to read? Does it provide inspiration and a warm feeling in your loins? If yes, check “zine.” And while I tend not to like anything that describes itself as a “journal,” I feel the strength in collections like this one show a deeper value and besides, argumentation is pointless.
