It’s been a while since I last read Johnny America and I like it as much now as I did then. It’s a short story zine and this issue comes with a tiny, smart and funny review zine sewn into the middle pages. Weirdly the first and last pages of the main zine are in tiny (6-point?) type which meant they were basically unreadable since I was reading in a semi-dark room while my kid was taking a nap. Don’t get me wrong, the design is pretty, but the text: too small.
There are many stories, most of them just a couple of pages long, and they range all over the literary map from a consideration of how much people think about sex to a set of alien “super suits” who come to Earth but are not impressed by humanity.
Johnny is a refreshing read, full of names most people won’t know, writing a slightly different kind of story.
