While there’s a very compelling ongoing narrative here, this comic’s all about the stark and fractured imagery for me. It’s another title which might be described as “psychedelic,” but this one’s not playful, it takes readers to a bad-trip place that’s very dark and uncertain. A comparison to Brian Chippendale’s also-great comics might be in order, although I find the relative tightness and rigor of Snake Oil’s art gratifying, and think I also detect a special obsession with early 20th Century newspaper strips. Enjoy as comics and/or as collectible artwork, especially as many (all?) the issues have been available in multiple silkscreened covers.
