Life for Happy seems to be - well, happy. Fresh out of college in the summer of 1961, he's landed a job at a Connecticut advertising agency. But, when he's tapped to design a newspaper ad recruiting participants for a Yale memory experiment, Happy can't resist responding to the ad himself. However, the experience forces him to re-examine his past, his soul, and the nature of human cruelty - chiefly, his own!
